Commenters Blogged About the MPAA Sucking…Oh Wait:

IP Address: [redacted]
Name: blunted
Email Address: [redacted]
URL: [redacted]
Comments:

the best is when I hear the MPAA talk about how they’re losing money due to
"crooks", who are "stealing" the music. Funny how record executives, pretty
slimy and unscrupulous people in their own right, would get so upset about
someone giving them a taste of their own medicine.

When Your Computer Crashed And You Lost All Your Napster Music:

Thanks for contacting Napster Support

We apologize for the issues you experienced with your Napster tracks.

To check that your computer is “individualized,” or prepared to accept licensed content, please try the following:

 1) Navigate to C:\Program Files\Napster and locate a file called WMP_upgrade.wma. Right-click on this file and select “Open With>Windows Media Player.” You should then see a message box appear within Windows Media Player indicating that “your Windows Media Player is up to date.” Please let us know whether or not you receive this message - if you do not receive the message above, let us know what you do see so that we may take the appropriate next steps.

If you do receive the message above, please continue with the following:

 Rename your db2.bin file
 1. Double click on My Computer
 2. Double click on your Local C: drive
 3. Double click on the Program Files folder
 4. Double click on the Napster folder
 5. Double click on the User Data folder
 6. Locate db2.bin
 7. Rename this file to db2.old

Rename the folder in which Napster stores music
 8. Locate the folder in which your Napster tracks are stored once they are downloaded. The path to this folder may be found by clicking on “File>Options” withinNapster. Browse to this location on your hard drive and rename this folder.  Once this folder is renamed, click on “File>Options” within Napster and take note of where your Napster tracks will be stored once they are downloaded This new folder path should be different from the original one.

Perform a Sync/Restore
 9. Open Napster and click on “My Account>Sync/Restore” and then click Continue. Select your tracks from the list and click on Sync/Restore selected tracks.
 10. You should then see your tracks begin to re-download.  Once they have downloaded, make sure they play.
 11. Navigate to the music folder that you renamed in step #8. Now that your new tracks are playing, you may delete the old tracks from this folder, and delete the folder if you wish.

If you continue to experience any issues, please let us know.

When responding on this issue, please reply with email history or copy the entire body of this email and paste it into your reply to ensure that all information is retained. Not providing the email history could delay our response time.

Thanks for using Napster!

When Google Was Testing “Google Print”

To me, from AdSense
10/27/2004

……

Also from Google: Google Print

Google’s mission is to organize the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful. Since a lot of the world’s information isn’t yet online, we’re helping to get it there. Google Print puts the content of books where you can find it most easily; right in Google search results.

To use Google Print, just search on Google as you normally would. For example, do a search on a subject such as “Books about Ecuador Trekking,” or search on a title like “Romeo and Juliet.” Whenever a book contains content that matches your search terms, we’ll show links to that book in your search results. Click on the book title and you’ll see the page that contains your search terms, as well as other information about the book. You can also search for other topics within the book. Click “Buy this Book” and you’ll go straight to a bookstore selling the book online.

Right now we’re just testing this program, so you may not see books in your results for every search. But you can expect to see more and more books popping up in your search results in the coming months.

If you’re a book publisher and you’d like to have your books included in Google search results, look into the Google Print program for publishers.
